Nigerian Construction Risk/Disaster Management Conference 2010.

Sustainable development and disaster reduction are essential preconditions for each other. Natural disasters severely hamper the progress and achievements of sustainable development while, at the same time, physical infrastructure we are constructing may itself constitute a source of risk in the event of future disasters. This is particularly true in the case of earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters where the majority of victims are killed by their own collapsing houses. From the perspectives of environmental degradation, human intervention, and security aspects, disaster management is a pressing issue for all of us and should be undertaken on a comprehensive basis.
In order to build disaster-resilient nation, NCRDMC will be showcasing senior level speakers, decision makers and key players in the Risk/ Disaster Management, Construction, Oil and Gas, Environmental Health and Insurance sectors to disc…

How tough is the PMP certification exam?

I get people asking me everyother time about how tough the PMP Exams really is?

The PMI-PMP® exam is not an easy exam. It is a 4-hour, 200 question multiple choice exam. Out of these 200 questions you will have to answer 106 correctly in order to pass. However, candidates fail. It happens every day.

After the exam you will be handed a score report, that doesn’t just show that you failed, it also shows a percentage breakdown of your performance by process group (performance domain). Each of the six performance domains contains a different number of questions and is represented as a percentage. That way you can see in which process group you actually failed the exam. This is important information for you so that you can prepare properly for next time.

The exam can be very tough if you are not well prepared before going to write.Of a necessiity have a study plan.

Below are some 13 strategies to pass at the first try:
1.You should memorize all formulas, especially the Earned Value and PE…

How do you gain PM experience when you don't have enough experience to secure a job/contract?

So the question is how do you build on previous experience to get myself to a level where you could start in a formal PM role?I get this question all the time from people trying to change industries.
Every position that anyone holds, has an aspect of project management. Regardless of your position or job there are often opportunities to project manage. Identify current projects which lack project management or proper project management and step up and just act as the project manager. Take a different look at your previous and current positions and identify the roles and tasks that are aligned with project management. Revise your resume accordingly, take a PM class, start on the certification.

There are volunteer opportunities in your location that you can get involved in. I've known people to volunteer and do work in non-profit positions while they're in transition. Those positions don't usually yield lots of cash, yet can allow you to develop and prove your PM skills, as we…

New free CAPM Prep questions - also worthwhile for use by PMP aspirants..
The number of CAPM-like questions in the PMP exam is not big, but having a good PMBOK Guide foundation is generally helpful for both exams.

I placed some CAPM questions developed by my friend and colleague Herbert Gonder, PMP, and by Oliver Lehmann PMP.

Who Practices Project Management?

Most people that i come across keep asking me about project management as a profession and its application in their specific industries.I got part of thos article from a great website to answer that question.
 Part 1
Everyone practices project management to some degree: Farmers plan what, when, and how they're going to plant; how they’re going to take care of their crops as they grow; and how and when they’re going to harvest those crops. Parents plan what they're going to prepare for their children for dinner. (If they have strong project management skills, of course, they delegate things like setting and clearing the table to the kids.) And so on.
In business, project management is an art, a skill, and a demanding full-time job. Project managers (PMs) are key employees in such industries as construction, engineering, architecture, manufacturing, and real estate development, but many opportunities for PMs exist outside these areas. In high…

Career Tracks and Compensation for Project Managers

Career Tracks for Project Managers

Very few people start in the field as full-fledged project managers. Most are offered an assistant position on a project management team and are assigned responsibility for one aspect of the work. As you gain experience, you may be assigned more and more tasks to manage, until you're ready to lead others in completing an entire project. Other newcomers start out with primarily technical jobs, creating, tracking, and updating the schedule using a software program; reviewing documents, and writing reports.
Project Coordinator
Project coordinator is an entry-level position that offers exposure to the work done by project managers. It's usually an administrative position involving a great deal of paperwork. You generate and distribute the reports that keep the project management team, owners, company staff, and others informed of a project's progress. You also schedule meetings and assist the management team in any way…

I am not only the host of The PM PrepCast, I am also the Host of The PM Podcast. And by listening to the podcast you will be able to earn 15 complimentary PDUs.

Demystifying the CAPM and PMP Credentials

Ihave loads of people that keep asking about the differences in the CAPM and PMP Credentials.I will try to demystify the CAPM and PMP Credentials here.

The CAPM and PMP credentials are two different credentials. Holding a CAPM is NOT a prerequisite for earning the PMP credential.

CAPM: for team members, project co-ordinators and entry level project managers who wish to certify their mastery of PM concepts.
* Based on PMBOK only
* Previous PM experience is not required
* Certification is good for 5 years and is not renewable.

CAPM is Appropriate for:
* Entry level Project team members and project support staff
* Entry-level project management practitioners
* Students at the undergraduate and graduate levels

The CAPM credential shows employers and clients that you understand the project environment and basic PM concepts as well as having familiarity with the Project Management Body of Knowledge and PMI methodologies.

CAPM Eligibility:
* Minimum of a high school diploma or the global equ…
